Elkin Endowment

The Elkin Public Library Endowment was established by the Elkin Public Library Board of Trustees in 2012 with a bequest from Ola Williams Hendren.

The Elkin Public Library Endowment was established by the Elkin Public Library Board of Trustees in 2012 with a bequest from Ola Williams Hendren. It honors the spirit Mrs. Hendren and her husband Lin, their passion, curiosity, and wonder for the natural world and their love for the library and local community in which they lived. Mrs. Hendren specified that the gift be used for library improvements deemed to be “in the best interest of the Elkin Public Library.” The governing body of the Endowment is the Elkin Public Library Board of Trustees. The endowed fund’s principal amount is administered by the Winston-Salem Foundation (WSF).

We invite you to contribute to the Elkin Public Library Endowment. The Trustees seek to grow the fund through an annual solicitation of gifts of $1,000 or more and through a planned giving program. Gifts may be made payable to The Winston-Salem Foundation, earmarked for Elkin Public Library Endowment C0612. Online giving is available by clicking here (click on Named Funds, enter Elkin Public Library Endowment, then follow the prompts). If you are interested in including the Elkin Public Library Endowment in your estate plans, please contact the Elkin Branch Manager at 336-835-5586 or Philanthropic Services at the Winston-Salem Foundation 336-725-2382.

The EPL Board of Trustees governs expenditures of Endowment funds. These funds supplement the Library’s annual operating budget based on public funds appropriated by the Town of Elkin and by Surry County, North Carolina. Monies from the Endowment have been used to enrich library services for the public, including the purchase of books for all ages, electronic resources, audios and videos, and computer hardware and software, and educational programs. If you have a suggestion or project that might use the funds, you may apply to the Board. The project must be related to or benefit the Elkin Public Library. Please discuss your idea with the Branch Manager.

The Library is pleased to accept donations to purchase collection items in honor or memory of friends and family. Please fill out the form below and mail it with payment to the attention of Branch Manager Elkin Public Library, 111 North Front St., Elkin NC 28621
